      Gemar

      Angelo Rocca, born in 1884, founded the first Italian balloon manufacturer. His passion was kindled in France at the age of four, helping his brother-in-law, a successful balloon artisan. By 15 he was running a workshop supplying Marseille’s most exclusive stores. In 1902 he returned to his hometown of Casalvieri, Italy, and established the country’s first latex balloon company, selling across Italy, Europe, Africa and the Middle East when every balloon was still painstakingly handmade.

      In 1953 his son Genesio launched “Ditta Genesio Rocca”, taking production to an industrial scale. In 1970 the first 1,000 m² factory was built and the first automatic latex dipping line installed. After Genesio’s premature death in 1977, his eldest son Angelo took the helm and, in 1990, officially founded GEMAR. Under his leadership the company secured a strong position on the global market and today Gemar® is run by him together with his son, Genesio. At the turn of the millennium Gemar® added an in-house printing facility and specialised in printing on latex balloons — spotting trends early and giving customers designs that help them rise above the competition.
